The future of the Walker House project is looking dim. The damages from sitting empty for so many years were much more than we thought. The structural and systems issues have been taken care of. It's now very well insulated, and more energy efficient than any building in town. Every part of the building is now up to present State codes. It's ready to serve the public for at least 50 to 100 more years. Our love of the building caused us to over look other issues. So now it's guest rooms are the only part that's open to the public. We were told by our bank to put a for sale sign out front, we did. We've been trying to locate a partner or investor. But in these times everyone is afraid. .
People just worry too much. We need to find a partner, or investor to keep the Walker House part of Wisconsin's history . It needs to be reopened and be serving the people. I believe historic commercial property needs to be up and running. Providing jobs , and service.
The bank is moving forward with the foreclosure. I have no more funds to reopen, or pay to fight in court. The SBA tells us we should be looking for a new home. I have paranormal groups wanting to spend the weekend investigating this wonderful piece of history. Those who have find the Walker House a very interesting place. It's been suggested that I ask for donations to help reopen. As many who have called to ask about the building , that might just work. Without power in the building our phone does not work. I'm trying to get voice mail added to the main line. 608-987-1660 has VM, but to save money, we'll soon have to disconnect it. you can always reach me by email at
innkeeper@cornishpub.net At this point any amount would help.
